"hi, I have an in dash dept finder that comes on but only shows OO.I believe it in a through hull transducer that i bottom painted over.Could it be the paint that is stopping the finder from working? THANKS TED"

There is now

There is now an interface between the layer of paint and the transducer. The sound waves are bouncing off the interface (either on the way out, or the way back, or both) instead of going straight through.
Sand off the paint, finish it up with some very fine grit (220 or higher) and you should be in good shape."

"My old Bayliner has an ancient analog depth finder with the transducer in the bilge. It works much better when there is a little water in the bilge, ie, the TD is sitting in a puddle. Might try that first. JW in Dixie"
