OMC 74L COBRA RUNNING PROBLEM

"1995 Four Winns 258 Vista w/ 7.4l OMC Cobra...At WOT engine runs fine for about two minutes, then starts breaking down like it is running out of fuel. I pull throttle back, let idle for a few minutes, and then runs fine for another couple of minutes at WOT. Tach also pegs out. Took to 2 different professionals, first one said bad computer and high pressure fuel pump and idle control, replaced all of them (very expensive). Second one could not find problem. Have changed low pressure pump as well, filter,checked float and needle and seat of vent in fuel reservior, attached to aux. tank, changed cap, wires, rotor, plugs, coil, and ignition module in distributor. Disconnected tach while under load. It runs fine on trailer, Tach reads correctly, but under load, it backfires through the intake,tach pegs out, and starts breaking down. At half throttle it is fine. Can anybody help???"

"sure sounds like a fuel problem. Can you add a pressure gage to the fuel line while you are running wot ?

Could be a bent fuel line, a clog in the throttle body, a clog in the fuel tank, a fuel line filter that needs to be replaced ..."

check firing order and timing

check firing order and timing advance and why would you have a float needle and seat with a high pressure fuel pump they are for fuel injection engines ps check scatter box for shift assist it could be bad but most likely you are starving for fuel at high rpm check float drop level in carb again or send it out for rebuild most likely it is a quadra-jet and you should do it anyway ps if it is fuel injected check your engine wiring harness plug at engine and make sure your voltage is good bretts marine service
