Yamaha 8hp four stroke cuts out and wonbt start

"Just bought boat with 2002 8h

"Just bought boat with 2002 8hp yamaha 4stroke. While checking it out, it start perfectly every time. Bought it, took it to gas station to fill up tank, put it in the water. After running great for about 4 minutes, it shut off without warning. Would not start again. I then noticed the air vent on the gas tank was closed so I opened. The engine would still not start. I have since checked fuel filter and there is no trouble there and fuel is getting there. Any advice?"
 
You could try squirting a litt

You could try squirting a little gas into the carb to see if it cranks over. If it does you obviously have a fuel issue. Double check your kill switches to make sure the emergency shutoff key is clipped into place. That is the red cord with the black clip on the end.
 
If you really sucked on the ga

If you really sucked on the gas tank with the vent closed to the point where the tank is collapsing it is possible to damage the fuel pump. However try pumping the ball first until its quite firm then try starting twisting the throttle only slightly and see if that works. Sometimes it just takes a few pulls if the motor has been starved of fuel. But if it doesn't go I would look at the pump.
