"I have a new 115 outboard with a 4 blade stainless prop. When putting in gear in either forward or reverse, and no load on the motor, there is a seriuos rattle in the lower part of the motor. Once you apply a little throttle, the noise disappears. The dealer said this is normal due to the weight of the stainless prop. Is this happening to anyone else? Do you think an aluminum prop might eliminate the noise? Is this normal?"

"Rick, your gears just may not

"Rick, your gears just may not be initially meshing properly - usually caused by "granny shifting".

If you are taking it easy putting it in gear - stop that practice immediately. You should snap it into gear (either forward or reverse) as quickly as possible. A slow shift will eventually ruin the gear teeth..

The weight of the prop causing the problem (???) - maybe time for a new dealer...."
