"Does anyone have any knowledge of the rack and pinion steering on a boat? Such as, should they be easy to turn? If steering is a little sticky, so to speak is there a potential problem?"
 
"Assuming this is on your omc

"Assuming this is on your omc outdrive? Original omc and seloc manuals show servicing of the steering cable (known as the manual steering system.) It requires you to disconnect cable from transom bracket then fully extend cable, remove cable from steering tube, clean and and lubricate cable with omc triple-guard grease, then re-assemble. Also says to lubricate the exposed steering ram (part you see connected to transom steering arm)every 60 days."
