Hi Guys

"A head gasket must seal between oil passages, water passages, and also seal the cylinders between the block and the head. So you can see that it can fail in a number of ways. There is usually a small area between the cylinders which gives out, killing compression in both cylinders, but not affecting oil or water. That is one scenario.
Its my understanding that if exhaust gases get into the cooling systems, it will force out the coolant, boiling water out the overflow is an indicator of this.
