"My 3.7L mercruiser was overheating and I bought a new impeller at a local boat dealer and replaced it. I knew the pump housing looked bad but I did not have one with me so I just replaced the impeller. Still overheated. I then bought the complete kit (housing, impeller, all o-rings, all gaskets) from marineengine for less than just the impeller locally. Walla...Cool engine. I didn't have time to fix it right but I had time to fix it twice. Thanks for all of your help. This site is teriffic with great advice and greater prices and fast shipping. Thanks again."

Old carpenters piece of wisdom, measure twice, cut once.
Same can always be applied to boats as you have found out, do the job once and do it properly.
When I work on my own boat or somebody elses I value my time spent carrying out a repair, so I do not cut corners as I have no desire to pull something apart twice to fix it once.
How much additional time did you spend not only pulling the leg back apart again but also to go and purchase the pump kit.

I bet you wont do that again.

Cheers
