"Hi, I have an opportunity to buy a 2001 Honda BF 50 for a ver fair price. The seller just had the motor checked out at an authorized Honda dealer & gave me a copy of the report. It says, "There is a miss at idle (carburetor needs to be cleaned)" Is cleaning the carb a difficult job or something I can tackle myself? The dealer estimated between $500 & $700 dollars for cleaning the carb, oil change & filter, engine tune up & replace battery cable assy. Seems kind of high to me.

Everything else with the motor checked out ok ( compression & leak down test).

"We charge $250 - $300 to go through the carbs. You can do it yourself, but it really is nice to know what you are doing. There are a lot of little things to look for. If you do decide to do it yourself, buy a shop manual. One bit of advice: don't try to take the carbs off individually, instead, remove them all at the same time by unbolting the intake manifold."
