"Hi All,
I have found help on this board before and now I am back with a 9.9 Yamaha that just will not idle. I have taken it to two marine techs that are the only two in or near our little community. Both have "cleaned and rebuilt the carb". One did it twice and still no improvement. They can make it idle (somewhat) in the tank or on a hose, but it just will not do it on the water. This engine was purchased used from a widow in our local fishing club. I am sure her late husband tinkered with it, but since it was so new I bought it anyway thinking it could be made run properly. I do understand carburetors, but at 74 I can't easily replace screws and gaskets and I have familial tremor which makes delicate things almost impossible for me.
I would like any opinions on what might contribute to or cause this engine to refuse to idle. Compression and spark/time check out and there are no hotspots on the engine and it is cooling normally.
