"Over the weekend I was running up the Mississippi river testing out the freshly rebuilt outdrive. I gave it a couple of trouble free hours at various rpm's, I decided to "give it to it". I advance the throttle slowly, and at about 3800 rpm's the lower unit went into neutral. I backed off immediately, then put it back into gear. It ran fine. I'm wondering if the control might be somehow engaging the neutral switch when the lever is advanced that far. I guess I can check the voltages in the back and see. Any other ideas? It ran great under load pulling the kids on the tube all weekend (till I ran it out of gas! Doh!)."

Your clutch hubs may be bad. T

Your clutch hubs may be bad. The knurling on them can look fine but still not work good under load. I've seen this many times over the years.
