Recently purchased 1981 18&#39

Recently purchased 1981 18' all seasons regency boat with omc GM 800 for $1500. Starting to have buyer remorse a little about the price in that there is liklihood engine would need replaced given almost 30 yrs old? Well taken care of boat.

Curious as to experience of those on forum of this engine type and reliability....

thanks

I have several customers with this vintage of engine and drive and they all are runners. Maintainance is the key!!!!

"I've got a '75 Mark Twain with a 351 235hp in it that starts easier than my car. I'm in the habit of checking all fluids in the engine and outdrive before and after each outing. May seem a little anal (fastideous), but with the money I put into rebuilding the outdrive, it's time well spent. I like the older engines myself as they are easier to work on, and most parts are still available, and sometimes cheaper than the newer ones."
