Do I need to remove the outdri

Do I need to remove the outdrive to replace the water pump? its an 85 stringer 800. thanks.

I'm in the process of replacing the one in my 1985 stringer 400. Removing the outdrive only took me about 45 minutes ( But ) the shift cables came right out for me I have heard that I'm one of the lucky ones. I will be taking the outdrive apart tonight I'll let you know how it goes.
 
Got it apart and the drive sha

Got it apart and the drive shaft and carrier bearing drive shaft where both shot along with the water pump. Pump kit was only about $60.00 total parts for me almost $400.00
