"yamaha 85hp 15-20year oldstarts and sounds a1 when trying to get boat on the plane (and te engine is more than powerfull to do so)it seams to rev,if it was a car u would think somone had put a foot down on the clutch,all revs no power,drop revsdown goes fine untill u speed up again,there is no clunk or jumping,just like putting clutch on"
 
Your propeller has a safety fu

Your propeller has a safety function that if it hits a rock or is given too much torque it spins out a rubber center so as to not damage the engine. You need to either have the prop repaired or buy a new one. I would suggest getting the old one repaired as a spare to keep in the boat in case you are stuck up the river without a paddle.
