" I took the propeller off to inspect the seal. Now I can't get it back on. The nut won't screw down far enough to get the cotter pin in. I thought I had kept the washers in place like they came off but, evidently I didn't. Can anyone help?

" I'm not sure if yours has the same prop that mine does, mine is a 86 and the rear washer has a shoulder step that goes up into the prop, not toward the lower unit. That would explain the 1/2 inch difference that the nut will not thread down. "

Very soon after I posted this I discovered that I had the rear washer in the wrong place. I now have the problem solved. Thanks for the reply.
