1987 stingray 190 SS OMC. I was wondering what that tube is behind the steering wheel itself. It is like it is on the gear box under the dash. Is a clear plastic tube about 6" long with a cap on the end. Is it supposed to have grease in it or anything?

"Steve,

That is just a protective tube to prevent the cable from catching any wiring or depositing any grease on the underside of your dash. When the steering is turned all the way one way, the cable pertrudes out the gearbox and into that tube. There is no need to add grease here as the cables are lifetime lubricated. Although, I guess if the cable appears dry it is not a bad idea to give her a little lube.

Good luck
Rick"
