"silicone it with some good ma

"silicone it with some good marine stuff to keep the water out of the rip.
Some of my tactics to remove cables:
propane torch - not for the inexperienced
PB Blaster
Time in addition to PB blaster
seal picks!
2 people - 1 push, 1 pull

I've never lost a cable. Although my one boat has duct tape holding the casing together (inside the boat, not outside!)"

"Stick a long 3/8 inch socket

"Stick a long 3/8 inch socket extension between the cable and the upper unit. Pry down and it will come out. I had the same problems as you, thought I was going to have to cut it. I shot some WD40, still didn't budge. Stuck that extension in there and with a little pressure it pulled right out."
