My stepfather wants to sell his 115 v4 outboard but doesn't know how much to ask or what year it is? he read these numbers on the transom plate. 6E5 L 388694? any ideas?

As to value - I would expect "on a good day" that he may get something between 500 and 1000 dollars.

And that "depends" - is it running and ready to go?

The motor is approaching 30 years old - similar hp motors half that age are sold for under 2 grand...

It's a Yamaha - excellent, well built motor, but they don't have the dealer network or aftermarket that say an OMC or Merc will have - so people shy away.

What kind of shape is it in cosmetically?

Has it been run in Salt water???

All of these factors determine value - but the bottom line is, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It may be "pristine" but if nobody wants it, it has no value (see my point).

Try listing it on Ebay or a buy/sell website - see what kind of interest it generates. If it has some hidden value, it will be reflected..."
