"i have a 40hp yamaha, and at full throttle it gives a annoying loud continous beep, it goes away after i let it idle for 10-15 secs. any ideas? also i cant even keep up with a 28 Evinrude( boats are the same length) any ideas if i got a major problem"
 
the boat doesnt have any gauge

the boat doesnt have any gauges. so i have no idea if i am running where i am supposed to be. i was told that the noise could be the water temp sensor. but there is plenty of water coming out the motor

the constant is either overheat or no oil
you need to test things out

We just got a 1991 yamaha 70 o

We just got a 1991 yamaha 70 on a pontoon boat. The multifunction gauge does not show the RPM when the boat is running. How can I tell if the gauge is at fault of if there is some other problem. At start-up the rpm shows 0 so I think the gauge is working. I want to make sure the overheat and low oil warning lights are working.
