"The cam will be different at least. Likely also the pistons, rods, valves, etc. A marine engine sees a different life than a road vehicle. It's kind of like driving uphill in third gear all day. One big factor of course is a boat sees much less hours a year than a truck.
A marine cam is designed to produce good low and mid range torque, without much regard to top end max horsepower.
Having said all this, you could likely use a truck 4.3 engine in a pinch. You will need to swap over most everything from the boat long block up. Carb & manifold, as well as alternator, starter, distributor, manifolds, mounts, fuel pump, wiring harness, T'stat housing, senders, etc, etc. You can never be sure that the truck block will have all the tapped holes you need for marine accessories. Don't even think about using an automotive EFI system in a boat.
