" Those 20s like to have a LOT

" Those 20s like to have a LOT of choke when cold starting. Your motor may be running a bit lean, too (float riding too low in carb bowl, partially clogged jets, etc.). Make sure the choke is fully actuating when you turn the lever, and that it isn't worn to the point that the choke flap rides loosely on the pivot shaft.

Also, ditch the starter fluid and get a spray can full of mixed fuel. Starter fluid is bad news for 2-strokes...

" Those old Mercs like the fue

" Those old Mercs like the fuel. I agree with Scott. Make sure the choke is working correctly. Also, make sure the fuel pump is not leaking. This will cause the fuel to not go into the carb when the bulb is pressed. I have an old 76 model 20 and still use it today. It is hard headed and picky, but will get me to the fishing spots every time.

Good luck and have fun on the Water! "
