Grinding noise when hard a Starboard

"I just bought a 92 Starcraft

"I just bought a 92 Starcraft Euro Elite with 3.0 Mercruiser Alpha One. Great boat. Great power, runs terrific.

I'm concerned about one thing. With the engine running at idle in neutral or drive engaged, if the wheel is hard a starboard, I'm hearing a grinding noise. Sounds like dry bearings. It doesn't matter if the drive is under power or idling in neutral, the grinding noise still emanates when the wheel is turned all the way to the right.

Any ideas?"
 
It sounds like you have a bad

It sounds like you have a bad gimbal bearing.You can try to squirt some grease in the bearing by using the grease fitting on the transom.But I would recommend replacing the bearing.

Have the engine idling when you pump marine grade bearing grease into the zerk fitting so it distributes thru all of the bearing. Guy

What is so weird about this is it only makes noise at idle speed when the drive is turned to the right. At throttle, no noise. Turn the wheel to the left, no noise.
