Hot exhaust elbow

I have a Mercruiser 5.0 with A

I have a Mercruiser 5.0 with Alpha drive. At idle my starboard exhaust elbow is running hot. At higher RPM it cools down. Does it sound like a problem with the pump in the outdrive or does anyone have another idea. Thanks

"Sounds like you may be a little shy on cooling water. If the impeller has not been replaced anytime lately, it is easy to do and may well be the problem. Also look for kinks or obstructions in the drive leg to gimbal hose, or in the hose that runs from the transom plate to the T'stat housing.
