"Have a 225 Yamaha thats been sitting for 2+ years on a boat with 100 gallons stabilized fuel from previous owner. Drained off 2 gallons to catch any water, debris in tank bottom and it started right up and seemed to run OK for on trailer with muffs. After in water, motor tops out at 5000 RPM and at idle sounds like missing a cyclinder or more. Changed filters, and tonight rechecking compression, changing plugs, check carb linkages, etc, run through some decarbonizer and/or cleaner and try again with 6 gallon tank of FRESH fuel. Any other ideas out there? How long can fuel sit before it loses octane?"

"That depends on a lot of things, but it sounds like you are on the right track. If you have an OLD car or truck, drain and use some of the old gas in there to make room for fresh. Even blended 50/50 it will be better than old.

Hmm... Thinking about it more, I would NOT run your motor without cleaning the carbs thoroughly. You could be asking for trouble if one has a clogged jet."
