"Boat shut down. Found gears strippped on Auxiliary shaft and distributor shaft, replaced them and new belt. Boat ran fine first time out. Second day wouldn't start and jumped to 180 degrees out. Anyone know what would have caused this."

"The Ford 2.3-liter motor doesn't have a timing chain, it has a belt. I had a similar problem with mine in which the gear at the bottom of the distributer got chewed up. Don't know what caused it. My mechanic thinks that the distributer had gotten loose for some reason. I had the gear on the distributer replaced and haven't had any problems since."
