"Engine won't start. Primary coil test passed - key to run position, move points, coil wire 1/4" from ground gives good spark. Crank engine - no spark. Could this be bad points and condenser? Voltage at + coil is 12.1 volts. Voltage at + coil during crank is 10.9 volts. Plenty of gas, 5 to 7 second cranks and engine will flood. We bought used. Previous owner used whatever engine parts he could find to replace parts that went bad. Lot of Motorcraft parts. Any ideas why no spark during crank? Thanks. Doug."

"Since most of the parts are not original, how would I determine Mallory or Prestolite? Would generic GM (Chevy 350) 5.7L parts work?"
 
"No they wouldn't work. GM

"No they wouldn't work. GM uses Delco distributors, OMC used Prestolite, and Merc used Mallory, except on the (chevy) 4cyl's, Then I believe they used Delco distributors."
