"Hello I have a 2.3 LT cobra engine. the timing is at 10deg and the carb backfires and sometimes stalls when pinned.If I advance timing to 18deg it seems to improve this condition, could choke cause this problem? Please help.

"If by choke you mean stuck on? I don't think so, you would probably have noticed some black smoke by now, an indication of running too rich, should also see black sooty deposits on the transom. I would suspect more of a lean condition to be causing the backfire, pull the plugs, carboned up is another symptom of running to rich. The stalling could be from a bad or weak accelerator pump on the carb, could be time for a rebuild?"

"Hi i have a 2.3 we had alot of trouble with the carb like how you describe. buy a rebuild kit and get a proffesional to fit it and tune it . it solved all our running problems best £200 i spent.
