2 questions on a mercury 25 hp year and take off problem

" just bought a 25hp mercury not sure of the year ser. number OD215738.. PLEASE HELP might be 97'not sure

ALSO WHEN I START THE MOTOR AND GO SLOW AS IF TROLLING HAVE NO PROBLEMS BUT WHEN SPEED UP AND GO FAST MOTOR DIES OUT AS IF NOT GETTING ENOUGH FUEL.

My 6 gallon fuel tank reads E,when it has almost half tank
I thought maybe that had something to do with it but not sure . can anyone help?????? "
 
Edwin...You probably just req

Edwin...You probably just require a carb ajustment on the idle mixture screw. The fuel gauge on the tank should have nothing to do with it...DJ

" I took off the carb, dismantled it and dipped in the carburator cleaning solution. Clean it out properly, put it back and it took for ever to it again, but I finally got it going. Is it normal to smoke a little out of the exhaust?? and is it usually rough until carb brakes back in?? "
