I'm not sure about your Tohatsu, but I know that with the Johnrude 6/8 series of the 1980s (same bore/stroke) there are some significant intake and exhaust differences, and similar differences in the Mercury 7.5/9.8 series of the 1970s. I suspect that would hold true with your motor. Probably doable, but it would be far easier (and likely cheaper) to simply trade the 6 in on an 8. Gaining 2hp may not seem like much, but that's a 33% increase...
Someone with more import motor knowledge may know better in this case...
