WHAT IS THE AVERAGE HOURS BEFORE ENGINE NEEDS MAJOR WORK--HOW MANY HOURS CAN I EXPECT ON ENGINE IN MARINE USE

"2000-3000 hrs over many years of use is normal however if the boat runs a lot like a commercial boat or charter boat you can get 3 or 4 times those hours. It has to do with maintenance, how hard you run the boat and if 2,500 hrs is over a 20 year peiod or a 5 year period. The shorter the period the more hours. With good maintenance"

"It really depends on what you are doing with them. Never run them hot. I recommend alarms if you don't have them. Change the oil and filters on schedule, 100 hrs is my "Grime Time" Try and prop to cruise at 2000 RPM or less }if possible. Keep up with your maintenance and they should last you for years. Run the hell out of them and they won't!"
