how do you separate the input

how do you separate the input and output shafts. i have a 1982 johnson 200 and i need to remove the clutch dog and reverse gear. does the output shaft separate . if so how. my manual is not clear on this. thanks

You need to drop/remove the lower unit. Remove the water pump assy.
Remove the carrier assembly that the propeller rides in.
Remove the two large snap rings in back of the carrier.
Remove the driveshaft retaining nut, then remove the driveshaft.
Now you can remove the propshaft."

"Have the proper size open end

"Have the proper size open end wrench and grind one side of it concave so that it will slide over top of the clutch shifter dog.

Once you have the wrench on the nut, it's just a matter of turning the driveshaft to loosen the nut."
