hi just wondering on a volvo p

hi just wondering on a volvo penta aq80 or any of the petrol engines should the exhaust be above water level or below when i fit it? i have the aq80 many thanks inadvance

"I have a 61 Larson Sea Lion with an AQ80 in it. My exhaust exits below the waterline. If you are concerned about getting water back fed into the engine, you can just get one of those exhaust flaps. It lets the water out but keeps it from coming back up into the manifold and getting back fed into the engine."

hi thanks for the info does it have to be below water level? or is that to deaden the noise? also do you have any pictures of your boat and does it go well ie is it quick?
