I have a 30 hp yamaha that "bogs down" when it hits rough water - runs slick until it hits a bump. It doesn't cut off but acts like you've just pulled the choke out. I have to cut it off and restart - sometimes takes a few turns of the key and "racing" the engine before it will run right.

"Thanks for the info. I'll try the easy-fix first - address the possibility of water in the tank. I've just been stymied by the fact that the problem only occurs when I hit a "bump". If the water gets rough while I'm out, I have to restart a number of times before I can make it back to the landing - or just "creep" back. Thanks, again."

"Hi. I had a similar problem with my old one Yamaha 30 hp 2 strokes.
The text that follows you'll find some personal experience I had with that amazing outboard.
Try to see the needle valve.
It can be hold down or up.
In the case of "down" the carburetor would be "flooded" and the excess of gasoline would be the cause of engine "bogged down".
You note by the smell of gasoline when starting the outboard again.
In the case of "up" the carburetor would be "starved" and the short suply of gasoline would be the cause of engine "bogged down".
Ending try to see if there is anything bloking the "gicleur" (nozzle?) hole.
Compressed air will aid you to remove dirties.
(Believe me it happened to me once a time, a fuel hose small part was bloking the fuel passage)

"Thanks, Fernando

"I have a 2004 225hp yamaha 4-stroke motor on a grady. After 5 minutes of running it will start to quit running. I replaced the water seperator filter, drained the fuel bulb on the motor, replaced the primer bulbs, added dry gas, startron water absorb and still no luck keeping the motor running. any suggestions?"
