can you pull motor without dro

can you pull motor without dropping lower unit ? or do you have to pull transmission with it?

"Are you talking a Cobra or a Stringer? If a Cobra theoretically you could pull the engine if you have enough room to slide it forward far enough for the driveshaft to come out of the coupler. However you'll end up taking it off anyway as you need to do an alignment check when you reinstall the engine so you may as well do it first plus you can check the bellows, gimbal bearing, etc."

"78 is a Stringer and very old and not a Cobra (they came out in 86) I'm not sure how the drive shaft attaches in a Stringer, hopefully someone else will come along with more Stringer experience to answer your question."

Did you have to support the outdrive? I am thinking of doing an engine swap on my 81 from the 4 cyl to a V8.
