87crusader shuts off at idle

" have a 87chris craft amerisport 320 w/ 350 crusaders. was pulling into tight dock after 3hr cruise which every thing ran fine , dropped down to idle and a noise like shaking a can of peanuts started and the engine(port) turned off it restarted quickly and was ok with some throttle and back to idle it started the noise and stalled again, this happend 3-4 times before i got it docked. in dock i restarted the engine and it ran fine again , but without a load on it. "

"Richard, first I'd check the running gear on the port engine (and the starboard while you're at it.) If your prop or shaft is fouled, the engine may not be able to idle in gear. If everything is clear, then turn your attention to a mechanical problem.
