" I have purchased a Mercury, 40 H.P. The problem with it is I have to have the chock on full chock to get it to run. I thought the carb may need cleaning so I have cleaned the carb really good because it did need a cleaning. However, the problem still exists, can you help me? Also I have given you the serial and model #, can you tell me what year the motor is? Thanks in advance for any info you may have. "
 
402 was early 70's. Clean

402 was early 70's. Clean your carburetor again you may have missed the high speed jet or other small passages.
