Introduction and the boat problem

"I just wanted to introduce myself; My name is Tyler and I am a 21 year old college student. I just bought a 1976 Bayliner Skagit offshore with a 302 Ford 190 hp mated with a OMC 800 outdrive. When I bought the boat it was running really rough, so I replaced just about everything on the motor (plugs, alternator, etc) It was still running rough (died sometimes) and overheated too. Then one day there was a loud bang in the lower unit and the motor would not turn over. So I removed the whole out drive and fired up the boat for a few seconds and ran perfect, which means the outdrive was the problem. I have narrowed it down to the stern drive because it won't spin (pretty sure a gear is damaged). Well thats were I am at now."

To be honest i really don'

To be honest i really don't know if it is an 800 but I assumed it was. What is so wrong with the 800? Is there any other (better) outboard the will mate with mine?

No,..... There's No Simple Swaps........

Either Sell it, or Part it Out.....
Then take the money,+ buy a boat with either a Mercruiser or Volvo power.....

You'll be a Much Happier Boater,.....
Rather than an Unhappy Mechanic working on his Junk Boat........"
