I know I read somewhere on here that it is a good idea to get rid of the point system distributor which one would work good on the aq131a..

"Bill, I converted my AQ130C to a Pertonix electronic ignition last year and I am very pleased with the results...smoother idle, solid timing, and just overall better performance.

Sorry, I can't tell you exactly which part number will work in your boat but if you call Pertonix (1-800-827-3758) with your distributor part number they can tell you if they have a model that will work for it. Also, here is a link to their marine application guide:

Bill, as you probably have seen in the above links supplied by Bob, the Pertronix kit you need is #2842. Just make sure that the number in the casting of your distributor is 231178017 or 231178016. I'm sure you will like the results of the conversion.

I have also heard positive comments about the Flame Thrower coils made by Pertronix (40000 V). To date I have not tested them in one of my engines, but I intend to install one I have this coming season on my 350 and see how it goes."
