There's no way to bypass it..... and keep in mind that (usually) the only scenario that will damage a diode is reverse polarity.

The OMC part number is 279176 but the price is outrageous (about $50.00). Pick one up at Radio Shack (or wherever) but be sure it can handle a hefty full 12 volts DC.

"Joe, I bought a blocking diode from radio shack today and put it in tonight and that was the problem. Thank you very much for all the info you gave me. My inlaws let this boat sit for the last 20 years. They have owned it from brand new. With your help it is now rugging great.
