"I'd like some opinions...

"I'd like some opinions... Is a 2004 8 horsepower Four stroke short shaft tiller control too big (heavy) for an older twelve foot aluminum V-hull? The Coast Guard plate says it is rated for ten horses, but I'm worried with the extra weight of a four stroke and my 200 pounds that it might be a tad much. All opinions appreciated..."

I had a twelve footer with a 6

I had a twelve footer with a 6 hp yamaha four stroke. I way 280+++. The boat didn't sink and I lived to tell another fish story. Go for it.
