"My 40 HP Johnson quit. I cha

"My 40 HP Johnson quit. I changed the 4 amp fuse and it ran a while without problems. When I tried to restart it, I had to change the fuse again. The engine ran, but the tilt-trim would not work. I cut it off, changed the fuse and everything is fine, until the next trip.

It sounds as if there is a short circuit some where. How do I go about diagnosing it? Thanks!"
 
Try and follow the tilt motor

Try and follow the tilt motor wires wire and look for a place where it has rubbed through. Also look for any bad joints which can cause high resistance. Another place for high resistance is the fuse holder terminals themselves
Another possibility is the tilt motor is sucking a kumara. You may have to put an ammeter on the circuit and check current draw.
