"Okay, I have a printed copy of El's break-in process and will follow it. The initial 20 minute run and oil change is complete. Problem is that the local lake where I would do the remainder of the process is very high, very off-color, and full of everything from trash to trees. So the question:

Can I complete the process tied up at the dock or is it necessary to have the boat in gear while breaking the engine in?"

"There is only one 'way' of breaking in an engine: under load! You may have an option and that is if Your Volvo dealer has a test prop to borrow You. They are extremely hard to come by, but I in fact made a couple from OMC test props by changing the hub (splines are different)."

Absolutely Not........

Without a Load,... You're more apt to Glaze the cylinders, rather than doing Any Breaking-In......"
