"could i put the ignition and charge system off a 1978 140 v4 johnson. on a 1973 v4 evinrude? as i have ignition problems on the one and a bad cylinder on the other, seems like it would also be an upgrade.

"I have never tried that,but it should w/a few mod's...I believe,u will need to use the 78 flywheel,...you will have to do some wiring wk,and there is no place to mount coils on the 73,except on the original alum saddle.I think,u would be better off repairing the bad parts and keep it original.The newer stator may be slightly taller than original,i just think there may be sev probs.prob just easier to stay original.but,if u compare all parts,esp under torqued flywheel for clearance,it should wk just fine.High speed timing will need to be re-set."
