" Hi, I just bought a Yamaha 8hp long shaft.

After looking at it for awhile, I noticed that there appears to be a 6" extension piece between the gearcase and the top part of the leg.

OK, can this extension be removed to convert the long shaft to a short shaft?

If so, what changes have to be made to the Driveshaft / gear change rod?
