I was checking out my boat mo

I was checking out my boat motor and at my lower unit there seems to be water coming out of what seems to be a split in the back of the gearbox (afraid that there was some water in the grease and cracked the housing and it frose this winter) am i looking at a new lower unit ? Or can it be welded and rebuilt?

"Frank,

The least expensive

"Frank,

The least expensive route is to find a used casing. Then, if the internal parts from your lower unit are serviceable, you can put them into the used casing.

I don't think welding is going to help. If water froze inside the gearcase, it has probably distorted the shape, which would probably render it useless.

A factory rebuilt gearcase is a surefire way to go, but that would cost more. There are a number of rebuilders who would have gearcases available.

Thanks for responding. I live

Thanks for responding. I live in Lawrence Kansas (25 miles west of Kansas City) do you have any ideas of where i could look and about how much i would be looking at spending for a casing.
