" Hi,

I'm going to buy a boat with 50 hp mercury, but I found a cooling water leak next to the lowest spark plug (next to the third cylinder spark plug).

Is it serious? Is it expensive to fix it up? Should I skip this one and buy something else?

As you can see, I'm not very familiar of this motor, but appreciate if someone can help me.
Motor is 50 hp 2-stroke elpto with external oil-unit.

Thanks for your time,

Antti "

" Antti,

That problem is probably not serious. The water jacket cover on these motors may leak if the gasket was not coated with some type of gasket cement. Sometimes even the gasket cement will not prevent a leak from occurring. If the motor seems to run well and have full power, it is usually best to apply a sealant directly to the leak without removing the cover, if the leak is not too serious. This will usually solve the problem. I generally use one of the epoxy putty products that you will find in marine stores for this kind of leak.
