" Have a 1980 silverline boat with a Mercruiser 470 engine. The shift interrupter switch is malfunctioning. However, my question is, why does it require such an extravagent mechanical proccess in order to trip the switch? Wouldn't it be much easier to install an electrical circuit at the shifter to perform the same function? Am I missing something? Do you think a simple momentary switch tied in to the shifter itself would work just as well? "
