Trying to install these is in a 1989 twin 5.8l Bayliner Avanti and having problem finding 12V source. Anybody recommend best connect place?

"GLenn....the existing coil should have 2 wires on the positive terminal, 1 provides 12v during starting only and the other is the resistor wire knocking the voltage down to around 9 for running. If you follow the resistor wire back (red/purple)to a splice you could hook in there and run that to the coil bypassing the resistor wire. Disconnect the resistor wire at the coil and leave it taped up incase you ever want to go back to the conventional setup."

"Thanks, finally fiqured it out. Ignition run wire to alternator is purple. Spliced in and so far works fine with 12v to the coil (flamethrowers). Also, have seen lots of discussion on ESA's and Pertronix compatability and that they require diode/resistor kit. The CDI/Rapair, Mfr# 123-9898-P for my 89 5.8L and others, advertises that diode kit not required for Pertronix ignition. Seems to work as advertised."
