"Prop pitch? I have a Wellcraft 2900 Express Cruiser with about an 11ft beam. Figure about 10,000 lbs. I have two brand new Carburetor Inboard Mercruiser 350’s, 8:1 compression with 1:1 transmissions. My ordeal is that I am trying to figure out my best fuel consumption with what I have. At 2500 rpm I cruise at 19 mph with about 1.3 miles per gallon, 6.6 gph per engine. I don’t think it is bad, but I think it could be better. Seems as though I have too much prop due to the fact that after 2800 rpm, I am into the 4-barrels and can barely get to 3000 rpm. I would like to know a ballpark figure of what my prop pitch would be and should be for this boat. I know I will be told to take it out of the water or something like that. I am open to suggestions. I know that as I operate at higher rpm’s, my fuel economy gets better. So I figure that I should maybe pitch down one or two degrees to get my fuel economy up past 1.5 to 2 miles per gallon at a higher rpm. What do you all think? What should my props be?
