"Wondering if anybody has any expierience with jackshafts. I have a GI 8.1 and DPS drive and would like to move the engine forward approx 4'. This will give a nice open transom in the rear of the boat as well as take some weight off the very rear of the boat. I found a drawing on the web of a setup by Volvo for a kit, however the dealer over here is not familiar with it at all."

Mine is a Mercruiser,.... But I doubt there's much difference.....

"Bondo, are you building the jackshaft yourself or are you getting a kit from mercruiser. I could build it myself but a genuine kit would make life easy. The shaft would be easy, it's just the bellhousing, drive, etc that would take a bit of engineering."

parts are available from volvo. no need to engineer Your own. call another dealer.
