At the end of last season my Stbd. 350/454 developed ping at around 2200 RPM's and up. I'm wondering if this can be caused by the Ethenol in the fuel and if advancing the timing would help?

"It would not be caused directly by the Ethanol, rather by the water collected in the tank due to the Ethanol.

I would definatly NOT advance the timing. That's going in the wrong direction.

Start by making sure your fuel system is updated to Crusader's current recommendations, then see how she runs.

Thanks for the quick reply Ric

Thanks for the quick reply Rick. I installed new Racors last season and cheched them several times and never collected any water. I had read that as the ethenol ages it can lower the effective octane of the fuel.

"Ayuh,.....

If the Timing was Advanced,Some How, Which is Unlikely,....
Or,...
A Lean Condition will cause Detonation......

I'd sooner think that some Water or other Debris in the Fuel System is the Cause of the Detonation,......
The Fuel Filters are the Best/ Easiest place to Start,....
But,... It could be Anywhere between the Tank,+ the Carb........"
